Sammanfattning (abstract):
The practical attainment of equality (be it based on gender, disability or age) within the transportation sector supports increased access to mobility. At the same time, goals of sustainable development call into question the environmental and social impacts of travel, thereby implying reductions in mobility, especially with regard to car use. Given such different political goals, gender equality and sustainable development are clearly at odds with each other within the context of current transportation systems based on automobility. How then can these two separate, yet clearly interrelated goals, complement each other so that Sweden moves towards both a sustainable and an equitable transportation system? How can gender equality most effectually be applied as an analytical tool to the discourse surrounding sustainability and transportation policy in Sweden?
