A Longitudinal Approach for Constructing Beta-Expectation Tolerance Intervals

Sammanfattning (abstract):
A new approach is presented for constructing -expectation tolerance limits (TLâ??s) for longitudinal data with an error components regression structure. The TLâ??s are mainly intended for small samples where the variance between subjects, and especially the variance within subjects, is large. In such cases it is superior to existing methods which are based on a cross sectional approach and does not utilise the longitudinal structure of the data. Simulation studies show that the mean length of the TLâ??s can be much reduced by using the new approach, while at the same time the -expectation property is maintained. The results are demonstrated on data consisting of measurements of glutamate concentrations in brain from rats. Here the customary method due to Wilks give TLâ??s which are up to 128% wider than those obtained with the new approach.
