With the aim to expose how situations of valued caring were described by the participants, written episodes were analyzed and interpreted. The value of a caring act in the specific situation was narrated as an image of what actually happened. The scene in which a caring act took place shaped the meaning of the act. Caring was connected to a diversity of acts designed to achieve different purposes. Comparison between the described episodes revealed that recovery, alleviation, security and comfort were most often seen as purposes of the caring acts. The all-encompassing motive was fulfillment of the participants desired change.
