Sammanfattning (abstract):
This paper lists a number of puzzles for shared obligations – puzzles about the role of individual influence, about individual reasons to contribute towards fulfilling the obligation, about what makes someone a member of a group sharing an obligation, and about the relation between agency and obligation. It then proposes a general analysis of obligations based on reflection on individual obligations, and proceeds to show how this analysis solves the puzzles. On the resulting view, shared obligations do not imply obligations of members of the group and do not presuppose joint agency.
