As a Phd in crafts my interest lies in the relationship between theory and practise. I am the first to admit that it’s a very problematic to look at theory and practise as two different entities. But sometimes it is necessary to generalize to be able se the bigger picture. What´s in focus here is the dynamics between craft, understood as craft-practises, traditions and skill, and theory basically understood as contemporary craft theory. Often people objecting to the dichotomy between theory and practise are theoretical influenced and a common objection is that theory can be seen as a kind of practise. I think that sounds reasonable but at the same time it is notable that it is more likely to find a professor in philosophy as professor in charge for, lets say, academic research in ceramics, rather than the other way around. Obviously there is an asymmetry in the way we look at these things.
