Sammanfattning (abstract):
Background Conceptually, Satisfaction with life evaluations emphasize the shortcomings of actual, as compared with expected, life circumstances. On its own, this conceptualization might represent a narrow view of cognitive w ell-being; which further might be difficult to sustain because of the overemphasis on individuals' expectations considering that one person's satisfaction can lead to someone else's dissatisfaction. Method This piece of work w as a theoretical review of the concepts relevant to cognitive well-being. Results Life evaluations based on judgments of satisfaction only represent one important aspect of cognitive w ell-being. For example, primary control addresses an individual's ability to change the environment according to their expectations (c.f. Satisfaction with life); meanwhile fit focused secondary control refers to an individual's ability to align or adjust oneself to the environment. Further, mindful, nonjudgmental acceptance can also be contrasted with judging the surroundings according to one's expectations. Conclusion Fit focused secondary control and mindful acceptance are both cognitive processes of adaptation that describe Attuned with life evaluations; which stand in contrast to evaluations of Satisfaction with life. We discuss this in relation to the scientific concept of social and environmental sustainability. An Attuned with Life Scale is proposed to complement the Satisfaction with Life Scale.
