Sammanfattning (abstract):
In this paper, it is established that there are many tough challenges when developing context-aware applications. Much discussion is going on in this area and the related areas of mobile, pervasive and ubiquitous computing. Eight major issues are identified and used as a theoretical overview and background for this paper. Moving on, it is argued that although many prototypes of possible context-aware applications have been presented, it is still hard to see hands-on value for intended users. Prototypes are frequently used to test new technology and evaluate particular research aspects, primarily developed and tested in constructed research settings on students and collegues. This paper argues that such use of prototypes needs to be complemented by evaluation of prototypes in real-life settings and in environments familiar to the users as a part of their everyday life, in order to take the next step in approaching context-awareness. The intended contribution of this paper is to the field of context-awareness. This is done by presenting a rundown of many of the issues already brought to attention by researchers, as well as by outlining a prototype currently under development that has real incentives for becoming a part of our future.
