Sammanfattning (abstract):
In order to highlight cross-cultural issues in emerging adulthood a socio-cultural perspective will be used in trying to understand the gender differences found in how Swedish emerging adults deal with identity issues. Building on previous research from Sweden and the results from two new studies the purpose of this presentation is to discuss these gender differences in the light of the Swedish context. The results indicate that popular norms among emerging adults such as ‘one should take the day as it comes’, ‘be flexible’ and ‘not commit to adult roles’ seem to apply more to young men than to women.
